The principal of a swimming pool shell
The shell of a pool must be able to withstand both the forces of the
water from the inside and also the forces of the soil from outside when
the pool is empty.
What the general public don’t know is that although the forces of the
water don’t change much through a pools life , the forces from the
surrounding soil do change. These forces are affected by things like :
•
Soil conditions – sandy , clay , shale , decomposed granite and
underground water
•
Moisture conditions in soil , Subsidence or differential settlement
•
The close proximity of a building
•
Poor drainage for water run off etc
As you can see there are many factors and forces that play on a
swimming pool. If the above is a bit confusing and you would like to
know more, contact Mike at mbruyn@mweb.co.za .
